The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) and the region’s local councils have published a new Placemaking Charter – a shared ambition for future-ready, connected, biodiverse, characterful, healthy, and inclusive places in the West of England

The West of England Combined Authority (WECA), in partnership with Design West, has published a new Placemaking Charter.
Developed by WECA and local councils – Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire – the Charter support the region’s aspirations for high-quality places that contribute to clean and inclusive growth, support the environment, and benefit communities.
The Landscape Institute (LI) has signed up to the Charter, which WECA presented at a launch event on Wednesday 20 July. Sarah Jones-Morris, Vice Chair of the LI South West branch, attended on the LI’s behalf.
Developed through a series of Design-West led workshops with stakeholders and communities across the region, the Charter reflects evidence and best practice and responds to key placemaking challenges in the West of England.
WECA are now welcoming organisations, community groups, and other stakeholders to sign up to the Placemaking Charter and demonstrate their commitment to embedding its principles in their work throughout the region.
